A boy of 16 was killed after defending a friend using crutches. Julian “Busta”Knight was heading back to his home in Thamesmead with four friends from a night out on Saturday 15th July. As they walked home from Abbey wood train station they were approached by another gang, one gang member, a son of a householder in Overton way, confronted them about a garden fire that had happened earlier that evening. An argument erupted and Julian was knifed in the neck from behind. Fatally wounded he collapsed trying to get home outside the Church of the Cross, just 150 yards away from Lensbury Way where Julian lived, with his Mother and Brother. A friend was also believed to been hit over the head with a baseball bat and had to have multiple stitches London Ambulance Service attended, and the 16-year-old youth was taken to a nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital suffering from a stab wound. He was later pronounced dead at 02:29. A post mortem carried out at the hospital gave cause of death as a single stab wound. Since news of his death spread, young people have kept a vigil where he collapsed. Friends have already been posting messages of condolence on their website and other closer friends have had tattoos done on their arm in remembrance. Stelios Paraschakis, 19yrs, from Thamesmead is believed to have tried to flee to Athens but was arrested and is due to appear in custody 18th July 2006 at Greenwich Magistrates Court charged with the murder Julian. Friends of the family have also launched a petition “Julian Busta’ Knight NOT just a number” asking that “Buster” does not become just another number in police statistics.
