THOUSANDS OF FREE TICKETS TO KENT’S BIG DAY OUT
People across Kent are invited to join in the county’s first ever Big Day Out on Saturday, March 31. More than 10,000 free tickets to the county’s top tourist attractions and destinations are available for Kent residents to download at www.kenttourism.co.uk or to pick up at their local visitor information centres.

And many attractions, such as the historic house at Ightham Mote, are opening their doors ahead of their usual summer season just so that Kent people can visit on the Big Day Out.

Kent’s Big Day Out 2007, led by Kent Tourism, is the first of five Big Days Out planned in the run-up to The Olympic Games in 2012.

“We chose Valentine’s Day to launch the free tickets because we all love Kent,” said Fran Warrington, head of Kent Tourism.

“Kent is a fabulous county. We have two areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a stunning coastline and more than 180 glorious gardens, castles and stately homes - all set alongside picturesque villages and delightful market towns.

“But, in our busy lives, we don’t often find the time to visit our key historic houses and castles or discover the many smaller or new attractions right on our doorsteps which visitors to the county enjoy so much.

“Kent’s Big Day Out is about us all getting out and about and having fun. And many attractions, such as our windmills, museums and sports centres, are putting on special tours and events to make it an even more memorable day.

“Tourism is a key industry in Kent with a total direct expenditure of more than £1.8 billion supporting 49,555 jobs. Sustainable tourism is vital to the Kent economy, our businesses and our jobs,” said Fran.

“Our research shows that many of our visitors actually spend at least part of their time in the county staying with friends and relatives.

“Our guests are relying on us to tell them about the latest attractions, the best fun days out with children, or where they can pursue their personal interests such as history, walking, art or music.

“Thanks to the Big Day Out, we will all be able to talk with much more passion, pride and enthusiasm about the outstanding variety of places to visit and activities to experience right across our county.”
