The Thamesmead 3
Trust Thamesmead’s Receptionist, June Wells; her daughter, Community Development Officer Linda Delieu; and Marketing and Communications Officer, Julia Hickson dressed up as convicts to raise awareness of Cancer Research UK’s fund raising event, ‘Wormwood Scrubs Sleepover’ on Saturday 3 February.

The Thamesmead Three are taking part in memory of Sel Wells, Nell Carter, Gus Darling, former Abbey Primary and Upton Primary School teacher, Kathy Hickson and all those who have ever been affected by cancer.

“It is a sad fact that one in three of us will suffer from cancer in our lifetime,” said Julia. “It is an awful disease and we want to do as much as we can to help eliminate the illness, so people don’t have to go through the suffering and upset our families and friends have been through.”

“Cancer Research UK is making a huge difference,” said June. “My wish is to see cancer eradicated in my lifetime. I want to help them raise as much money as possible.”

“My mum and I raised £900 between us when we took part in a sleepover at Holloway Prison two years ago in aid of Cancer Research,” said Linda. “We are hoping to beat that figure this year.”

What Sort of Place Would You Like Erith to be in 2021?
From Friday 26 January to 9 March the Council will be consulting local people on the issues and options to be considered in preparing its action plan for Erith. The Council is running a draw with a prize of £100 in vouchers to encourage people to take part. “I hope residents and everyone interested in the future of the area will take the time to comment, because the future of Erith is central to our plans to regenerate the north of Bexley,” explains Cllr John Waters, the Council’s Cabinet member for Regeneration & Housing. “People sometimes accuse the Council of neglecting the northern part of the borough, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Action Plan shows our commitment.”

This Action Plan for Erith will form part of the Local Development Framework that will eventually replace the Unitary Development Plan as the Council’s key planning policy document, under the new development plan system introduced by the government.

The Action Plan will set a planning framework for a smaller area where significant change or conservation is required. This area includes the River Thames, Town Centre, West Street, Manor Road, Erith Sports Centre, Lesney Park Conservation Area, Erith Quarry and industrial estates along Manor Road. The main policies on the use of land across the borough will be covered in the core document.

The Erith Area Action Plan will have more specific polices for this area, up to the year 2021, and could identify potential development sites. Views expressed by residents and other interested parties will have a major influence on the final plan.

Exhibitions will also be held during the six-week consultation period at the following locations. Staff will be available on the days and at the times shown to answer questions.

Youth and Family Centre, West Street, Erith
Wednesday 14 February 12.20-2.30pm
To find out more about the exhibitions and your chance of winning £100 of gift vouchers, pick up a leaflet and questionnaire from Council buildings and libraries, or view the documents on the Council’s website at www.bexley.gov.uk/consultations
