Planning Committee Blocks “Utter Beast Of A Development”
Belvedere Councillor David Leaf has welcomed the decision by Bexley’s Planning Control Committee to reject an application for 37 flats on the Bromley Caravans site in Abbey Road, Belvedere. Dozens of local residents applauded when the decision was made and speaking against the application Cllr Leaf said:

“This is an utter beast of a development that would cause misery and distress to the many residents in the surrounding area. I am especially concerned about the affect that it would have on the elderly residents in Dowling House whose lives may be put at risk by the increased traffic in Laymarsh Close that would cause new and dangerous hazards. Moreover, their quality of life would deteriorate because of the inevitable increase in noise.”

“I would like to pay tribute to the two residents, Mr Jones and Mrs Milton, who came to address the Planning Control Committee as well as all of the other residents who came along despite the horrendous weather. Mr Jones and Mrs Milton spoke very well and echoed the sentiments of the other residents at the meeting and those who could not attend due to the weather or ill health.”

“This is only the first battle as the Planning Control Committee will need to review its decision at a later date and the developer may wish to appeal. However, tonight was an important victor for the local residents who I have had the privilege on meeting and corresponding with about this and many other important issues.”
