Black Swans
Trust Thamesmead employees spotted two black swans and their signets being blown down the canal outside the Trust’s HQ in Joyce Dawson Way, Thamesmead Town Centre on Thursday - the windiest day the U.K. has seen in 17 years.

The Black Swan is a large non-migratory water bird which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest of Australia. The current global population of the Black Swan is approximately around 500,000 individuals

Primary School children Finish Artwork
Four children from Bexley primary schools have completed an art work dedicated to recycling which was started by secondary school pupils in August 2006.

A primary school competition was launched to finish the work, displayed at the Foots Cray Reuse and Recycling Centre, Maidstone Road, and consisting of four large picture frames made respectively of wood, electronic items, wellington boots and metal.

The competition for a picture to go inside each frame indicating what could be done with that material was open to all borough primary schools.

The winners were: Leyla Yang, aged 7, Slade Green Infants, Erith, who was declared overall winner; Katie Leak, 7, St Paulinus Primary, Crayford; Michelle Bacon, 10, Upton Primary, Bexleyheath; and Michelle Vero, 10, St Paulinus School Primary.
