MARATHON BOOST FOR ERITH BALL COURT PROJECT

There was great news for young footballers in Erith this week, with the announcement that the Bexley Community Safety Partnership has secured a grant of £13,500 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust, for the ball court at West Street, Erith. Cllr Chris Ball, Chair of Bexley Community Safety Partnership and the Leader of Bexley Council says: “In the words of many football managers, we are ‘over the moon’ at being awarded this grant. The Ball Court project promotes team spirit, fair play, and encourages acceptable behaviour, and I am pleased to see so many young people getting involved.” The grant will be used to fund improvements to the ball court at West Street. The Ball Court project, which started as a trial in Erith, attracted over 70 young people when it first began in May 2005. Teams of five players compete against each other in 20-minute supervised matches. The trial was so successful in helping to reduce youth disorder in the area, that it lead to the creation of a Ball Court League of 33 teams with, venues across the borough.
