Campaign Against Unfair Fare Rail Increases
The Conservative Party in Belvedere has been campaigning against the 13.5% unfair fare increases local commuters are faced with paying this January and have called upon the Government and Southeastern Trains to give commuters a fairer fare deal. Local Councillors David Leaf and John Fuller have written to the Transport Secretary, Ruth Kelly, and Southeastern to protest at the rate of increase, which is among the highest in London, and are asking commuters and residents to join their campaign. Handing out campaign letters to commuters at Belvedere station, Cllr Leaf said:
“The rate of the fare increase commuters using Belvedere station face is outrageous, especially when some season ticket fares from other stations have reduced. We hope that local commuters will join our campaign against the unfair fare increases and support us in pressuring the Government and Southeastern to deliver a fairer fare deal.”
Season ticket return fares between Belvedere and London have increased by 13.5%, whereas the season ticket return fare between Abbey Wood and London has reduced by more than 2%.

Fresh appeal for news regarding unidentified Erith man
Missing People, the UK’s leading charity for missing and unidentified people, today makes a renewed appeal for information regarding a man found in Kent three years ago.
The charity, which works with the police, coroners, hospitals and social services to resolve cases of unidentified people (alive or dead), is calling on the public to help identify the man who was discovered near Ray Lamb Way in Erith on 1 January 2005.
The man is described as being white, aged between 45 and 60, and approximately 5ft 7in – 5ft 9in tall. He was of medium build with brown/greying hair and a full beard. His teeth were in bad condition with many missing and it is believed that he may have been living rough for some time.
When found he was wearing various layers of clothes that included blue trainers, brown trousers, a blue cardigan and an orange padded jacket.
Missing People has checked their missing person’s records for clues as to a possible identity, but as yet no conclusive match has been made.
Teri Blythe, Head of Missing People’s Identification department, says: “In most cases an unidentified person is also a missing person, so it is likely that this man will have family and friends out there who do not know their fate.
“We therefore hope that this appeal will bring some vital clues that will lead us to identify this body and put an end to someone’s distress.”
