I would firstly like to wish all our readers a very Happy New Year.
2006 will see the 1st year anniversary of Gateway News, the first of many more to come.
Gateway News is aiming to expand the paper this year with more local news, a new motoring, gardening, recruitment, section and extending the local property section. Another goal is to increase circulation to cover a wider area, in particlar the Thamesmead area, thus reaching more homes and greater potential for our advertisers.

Erith & Thamesmead MP, John Austin, visited St John Fisher Catholic Primary School on 19th December, to present an award to 10 year old, Jake Reynolds, who designed the MP’s Christmas card this year.
Jake’s design was the winning entry in John Austin’s Design a Christmas card Competition, for Bexley and Greenwich primary school children attending schools in the Erith & Thamesmead constituency.
Jake’s design was chosen from the hundreds of entries received from St John Fisher School, Thamesmead; Christchurch Primary School, Erith; Belvedere Junior School; Churchfield School, Abbey Wood; Woodside School, Belvedere; Bedonwell School, Erith; South Rise Primary School, Plumstead and Woolwich Polytechnic School, Thamesmead.
Over 1000 cards bearing Jake’s painting have been now sent out by the MP, mostly to people in Bexley and Greenwich but several much farther afield.
Prizes for the winning entry runners-up, and those highly commended, have been sponsored by B&Q, Signature Industries, Morrisons Supermarket, Orbit Bexley Housing Association, Gallions Housing Association and Woolwich Travel Agency.
