New play space on Gascoyne Drive

Bexley’s contractor for the A206 Thames Road, Mowlem, brought its mascot to open a new playspace on Gascoyne Drive in Crayford, before handing it over to Whitworth Housing. Mrs Cope from Whitworth Housing Group cut the ribbon, to formally open the new play space, and the keys were handed over to her by Mowlem.

Mole ‘M’ helped local youngsters celebrate the opening of the new play space. The new facility was built to replace the old play space which was affected by the road widening scheme and has a ball court and a skateboarding ramp.

NO BENEFITS IN FRAUD

On the 12th December at Bexley Magistrates’ Court, Karlene Dobbs and Emmanuel Abolarin were sentenced to 80 hours community punishment, for claiming benefit to which they were not entitled.

Miss Dobbs and Mr Abolarin, of Waterfield Close, Belvedere, failed to declare the fact that they were married and living together, on two application forms for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.

Mr Abolarin also failed to declare the fact that he subsequently took up paid employment. As a result of the offences, the couple were overpaid £4,689.30 in benefits.

At the time of the hearing, £500 of the overpayment had been repaid. Bexley Council is actively pursuing the recovery of the remaining money. Their sentence means that the couple have a criminal record. The prosecution was brought by Bexley Council and Capita Business Services.
