Heathland Restoration
Lenses Abbey Conservation Volunteers (LACV) held a heathland management task in Abbey Wood. The task was held on Sunday 24th June & was a great success, with volunteers removing invading species from the heathland area. Removing these invasive plants will help encourage the heather to grow and will help to increase the biodiversity of one of the few heathland habitats in London. The next LACV event will be on Sunday 8th July and will involve restoring traditional chestnut fencing. All ages and abilities are welcome, to find out more about this and other free Lesnes Abbey Conservation events phone 0208 3173748.

The task was part of a five month campaign called CSV Action Earth supported by Morrisons Supermarkets. The Campaign is organised by the national charity Community Service Volunteers (CSV) and involves over 900 voluntary organisations, businesses and community groups that will be undertaking projects that are immediate and of lasting benefit to the environment. If you would like to register your own project or think you can come up with a good project idea then please take part in the campaign. Call the CSV Action Earth hotline on 0121 328 7455.

The task was also part of Love Parks Week which is organised by parks charity GreenSpace, to raise national and international awareness of the importance of Britian’s parks and green spaces and encourage people to get out and discover just what these fantastic places have got to offer.
