Youngsters from Erith could be aspiring to follow in the footsteps of Wimbledon hopeful Andy Murray – as their youth club has been named a Nestlé Kids’ Clubs Tennis Scheme ‘Top Club’.
As one of only 77 such clubs in the whole of England, Scotland and Wales, the Camp Adventure Club in Erith Leisure Centre now has access to exclusive specialist playworker tennis training and the young members will receive a visit from a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Tennis Coach.
The ideas that the playworkers learn from their training will then be incorporated into a full programme for the young members - and even better, will be followed with a gift of £160-worth of tennis equipment for the youngsters to use in the club.
The Nestlé Kids’ Clubs Tennis Scheme is funded by the Nestlé Trust and run by children’s charity 4Children, in conjunction with the LTA. It aims to target youngsters who might not normally have the chance to play tennis, by introducing them to the sport in a fun and enjoyable way. Children are motivated to participate and learn basic ball and other skills upon which they can build.
The club’s commitment to progressing a tennis programme means it has been recognised as a ‘Top Club’ by a panel at 4Children and the LTA.
The Scheme is supported by Jeremy Bates, GB Davis Cup Captain and Manager of Men’s Training at the LTA; “Nestlé Kids’ Clubs Tennis Scheme enables youngsters all over the country to have access to equipment and activities they might not normally have. My congratulations to the Camp Adventure Club for being chosen as one of just 77 top clubs in Britain. This Top Club scheme provides an added incentive to really encourage the Playworkers as well as the youngsters, in a fun and helpful way - and I believe that this is really important for the development of junior tennis.”
