Tuesday 22 March 2007 marked the official launch of the Thames Innovation Centre (TIC) as a catalyst for innovative high-growth potential and technology business development at the Centre’s purpose built facility on Veridion Park, Erith.
The event saw the handover of the building from contractors Dean & Dyball to Bexley Council’s Leader, Councillor Ian Clement and then to the Thames Innovation Centre team, with speeches from TIC Chairman Dr Derek Harris, TIC CEO Lesley Anne Rubenstein and Head of Innovation, Design and Production Industries at the London Development Agency, Dr. Max Broadhurst. Regional and local dignitaries will be in attendance and all visitors will be given the opportunity to tour the Centre, meet its dedicated business support teams and network.
Acting as a business support hub, the TIC provides a stimulating and creative working environment and offers 50,000sq ft of commercial space over three storeys, on easy-in and easy-out rental terms ranging from 215 to just over 1,700 sq ft as well as 20 hotdesks and houses a cutting-edge communications and audio-visual infrastructure, along with extensive conference, board and meeting room facilities.
The Centre is a magnet for ambitious start-ups and SMEs interested in innovation and expansion particularly in the ICT, biomedical, defence, avionics, nanotechnology, security, food, manufacturing transports & logistics and renewable energy sectors.
Acting as a business support hub, the Centre, courtesy of its business support teams, provides tenants and local businesses with immediate access to top line business support via TIC Enterprise, TIC Think Big and TIC Business Solutions.
TIC Enterprise comprises a team of experienced business and financial consultants, offering on-site support and advice. The Enterprise team offers services to support any kind of business from pre-start-up, to start-ups and micros and SMEs, from business planning, to training, mentoring, clinics and seminars. The team also boasts contacts with regional business agencies, which can help widen networking circles and commercial scope.
The TIC’s Think Big and Business Solutions teams facilitate the commercialisation of innovation and technology within start-ups and small to medium size firms, as well as business support and access to finance. The Business Solutions Team will also help you grow by accessing new UK and overseas markets. They will also help you to get your company green. This team works in Objective 2 regions of Greenwich and Bexley boroughs. The Think Big Team works north and south of the Thames, in seven London boroughs, including Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Havering, Barking, Dagenham, Bexley and Greenwich.
The TIC affords local companies the opportunity to forge links with entrepreneurs, universities and colleges, economic development agencies and R&D organisations.
The Centre’s Chairman, Dr Derek Harris commented: “We are delighted to be formally opening the Thames Innovation Centre; this event marks a key milestone in the future development of the Centre and its tenants and represents a culmination of hard work from the entire team. Today’s event gives future tenants and the local community the opportunity to see exactly what we have to offer and demonstrates, more now than ever before, how strategically placed we are to support the development of knowledge and technology-led SMEs and to attract investment into the area.
The Centre’s Chief Executive Lesley Anne Rubenstein commented “As a launch pad for innovative companies, the Centre provides both high quality workspace, coupled with comprehensive business, financial and technological support and advice and our multi-lingual, international business and technology specialists on hand. We offer the perfect solution for local and international companies that want to utilise what the UK and Europe has to offer.”
