PCSOs take a day trip
Two Police Community Support Officers joined the 4th Barnehurst Cub Pack on a day trip during the half term on Wednesday 14th February.
The PCSOs, from the Barnehurst Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Team were invited along to meet and get to know the young cubs and learn about the type of good works that they do in the community.
Working towards their Local Knowledge Badge, the scouts were divided into small groups and via the public transport system had to race to various locations.
PCSOs Wesley Jones and Cathy Nolan set out from St Martin’s Church Hall in Erith Road with assistant cub leader Steve Morley and 15 cubs aged between 8-10 years.
They were divided into 3 teams, each taking an envelope containing a route and destination. Teams received points for being the first to reach their goal as well as completing tasks along the way.
Setting off for their first destination, Chislehurst Caves, they enjoyed a guided tour before heading off for the Thames Barrier. At the Information Centre they learnt all about the barrier and how it works and protects central London from flooding.
PCSO Wesley Jones then went with his team to Lesness Abbey, Cathy Nolan’s team went to Danson Park and the third team, led by Steve Morley and a few parents, went to Erith Museum.
To end the day the scouts had a tour of Hall Place Gardens, a fish and chip supper at Hall Place and listened to ghost stories told by the cub leader.
PCSO Cathy Nolan said, “This was a wonderful opportunity to meet these young people and help them towards achieving their local knowledge badge. They were very inquisitive and asked us lots of questions about the job we do.”
