PRAISE FOR BEXLEY’S CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE’S TEAMS
Government Inspectors have found services for Children and Young People in Bexley to be good with some areas outstanding - thanks to some perfect partnership working.

The overall grade given by inspectors for Bexley’s Children’s and Young People’s Services was ‘3 - good’. This places Bexley among the top 25% in the country.

The Joint Area Review (JAR) that took place in the Autumn of last year and looked at services provided by the Council and other partner agencies including schools, health, police and voluntary organisations.

“This is great news for Bexley. To receive such a positive report from the inspectors in the first year of the Bexley’s Children’s Trust is a great achievement,” says Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Teresa O’Neill.

“We must recognise the vast amount of partnership work that goes into making services such a success and particularly the support of schools. Our partners from the health sector enable us to provide an almost seamless service and their efforts have been commended in the inspectors’ report.”

“All our partners work with the same aim in mind, to achieve the best possible outcome for our children and young people and this excellent report is a acknowledgement of the hard work that goes towards that. We are already aware of the areas for further improvement and are particularly pleased with the recognition that some long standing issues are now being tackled in a robust manner “

The final report published by OfSTED today (6 February) says that in Bexley ambition, a clear strategic vision and strong and committed leadership, effective partnerships and careful targeting of resources had resulted in a positive impact in improving outcomes for children and young people.

Inspectors noted that the Council works effectively with its partners, a feature said to be particularly evident with health agencies. The impact of local services in securing the health of children and young people was said to be outstanding. This rating has not been achieved anywhere for health services since Joint Area Reviews began two years ago.
