Advice for People on The Autistic Spectrum
A centre for providing advice and information to adults on the autistic spectrum or their carers was launched on 1 March by Bexley’s Mayor (Cllr Brian Beckwith).
The drop-in support and advice centre will be open in future on the third Monday of each month between 10am and noon at the Betty Tod Centre, 35 Lesney Park Road, Erith.
Cllr Sharon Massey, Bexley Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, who was present at the launch, said: “This new service in Bexley is the result of teamwork between the borough’s statutory and voluntary organisations but, even more importantly, it is the result of individuals seeing a gap in what we provide and working together to fill it.”
The organisations taking part include: ACCD (Action Committee for Children with Disabilities); BASIC (Bexley Autism Support and Information Centre); Bexley and Bromley Advocacy; Bexley Crossroads Care Ltd; Bexley Mencap; Bexley Snap; Bexley Twofold; Bridging the Gap; Carers’ Support Bexley; Hill Park Autistic Trust; JMF (Support Group for Unseen Disability); Moorings Project; NAS (National Autistic Society) Bexley; New Horizons (Bexley); Respond Community Matters; Volunteer Support Project.
The first session of the Drop-in Support and Advice Centre will be on 16 April. For further information contact Bexley Mencap, which is facilitating the Centre, on 01322 336973 or email bexley@bmencap.fsnet.co.uk
