FAREWELL TO THE ROYAL ARTILLERY
The Royal Artillery is moving out of its Woolwich home to Larkhill, Salisbury during the course of this year. To mark this historic occasion there will be celebrations over the bank holiday weekend of the 26th, 27th and 28th May at Fire power museum, Royal Aresenal.

Woolwich has a long and distinguished relationship with the Royal Artillery dating back to its formation on 26th May 1716. It seems only fitting that their departure is an occasion to remember.

There will be a formal, regimental farewell event based at the Royal Artillery Barracks on Saturday 26th May aimed at past and present members of the Regiment.

The Royal Artillery Museum, Firepower, will remain at its current location on the historic Royal Arsenal site and will provide a focus for maintaining the Regiment’s long association with Woolwich. The museum will participate in the celebrations by staging a full programme of activities for all the family and the local community.

Proposed activities include a fun-fair, land train, marching bands, living history displays, firing displays and a pageant of artillery. There will also be a stage music offering a variety of live entertainment, including a World War Two themed Jazz Band, African Drummers and Irish Dancers. The event also marks the 6th anniversary of the opening of museum in its current location.

There will also be an opportunity to take a short boat trip courtesy of Thames Clippers who will be operating a service from the Woolwich Pier.

The event will also include a celebration of the Plumstead Fire station which will include two historic horse drawn fire appliances as well as demonstrations by the Massey Shaw fire boat.

Please check the museum website nearer the event for further details: www.firepower.org.uk.
