The weekend of 22/23rd October 2005 was one of fun and celebration at Erith Yacht Club. On Sunday there was a race to Greenhithe and back. Before the race, competitors had to complete a quiz, including a question about what Nelson had for breakfast before the battle. They then had to sail to the Pier Hotel at Greenhithe, propose a toast to Nelson at the bar and sail back to Erith, where they had to propose another toast to Nelson. In the meantime there was a battle with water bombs.
On Saturday evening there was a fancy dress party several people dressed a s Nelson and there was a recreation of the famous painting of Nelson when he was shot.
On Sunday 4 boats took part in the Great Dinghy Battle, the famous signal that Nelson sent was displayed on the EYC Clubship the flags were made by the children of EYC. Two French teams took on two English another water bomb fight took place naturally, the English won.
The day was finished on a serious note, with the authentic toast to Nelson and his men which was made below the huge white ensign we were given special dispensation to fly that weekend
