As Christmas draws closer, and the New Year beckons, once again, it’s that time of year to reflect on the year gone, and to prepare for the year ahead. Christmas is at least a time to have a few days to relax amongst friends and family, not forgetting to have a few tipples. As Gateway News looks forward to it’s first Christmas, so does the new Erith town centre. Its pleasing to see more shops opening up, though slowly. If you, like myself are one of those, who can’t stand shopping in crowded shopping malls, being attacked by buggies, trolleys and bags, then perhaps Erith town centre may offer an alternative, That is, if you know what you want, and know you can get it there, or perhaps opt for the internet shopping option. This November/December issue will be the last issue for this year and apologies for those who expected it to come out on the 8th as printed. I would personally like to wish every one of our readers, advertisers, delivery staff, printers and copy editors a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.

Young people Make a difference

Following last years success young people got stuck into this year’s Make A Difference Day by running two great projects. Working with the residents of Teeswater Court Atrium in Thamesmead, and supported by Gallions Housing and Tilfen Land Limited, young people and residents joined Greenwich Police Cadets to build a memorial garden’ for the Abbey Wood branch of the Royal British Legion. New benches, flowers, and a memorial stone were laid. The Royal British Legion will be holding a dedication and remembrance service in the new garden in November. The second project was a 4 day residential at HopeHill Scout Camp site in Meopham, Kent. Young people worked together to make environmental improvements to the site which will be of benefit to the many thousands of young people, from both the UK and Europe who use the site throughout the year. Young people from the Eynsham youth team in Abbey Wood, joined the cadets for a day of community work and team building activities. Project Coordinator Simon Platt said “yet again young people have proved what a great contribution they make to the community we live in”
