BEXLEY IN BLOOM
The green-fingered gardeners of Bexley were consoled by the judges of this year’s Bexley in Bloom for the exceptional summer heat and congratulated for coping with the imposed hose pipe ban by using drought tolerant plants and mulch to conserve water.

The results of this year’s competition, sponsored by Ruxley Manor Garden Centre, were announced at an awards ceremony at Hurstmere School, Sidcup, on Wednesday, 20 September.

The prizes were presented by Bexley’s Mayor, Cllr Brian Beckwith, who said that in spite of the heat and the hose ban “this did not seem to affect the wonderful standard set by the participants”.

The Bexley competition was held in the wake of the borough’s success in the capital-wide London in Bloom contest. At an awards ceremony at The Oval, Kennington, earlier this month Bexley was ranked among the leaders with a silver-gilt award (there were no gold awards this year).
