CHARITY NIGHT LEADS TO MURDER
Police are appealing for information after a murder in Thamesmead.
Police were called at approx 11.30pm on Saturday 9th September 2006 to a large disturbance at the Cutty Sark pub, Joyce Dawson Way.
Officers and the ambulance service attended and found a man unconscious at the scene. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body has been formally identified as Duncan Charles Frame aged 52 years of Eglington Rd, Plumstead.
A post mortem took place at Greenwich Mortuary and subject to further testing, has given cause of death as head injuries and heart failure.
An incident room has opened at Barking under DCI Matt Horne, Homicide & Serious Crime Command.
Mr Frame had been involved in a charity evening at the pub when the disturbance occurred.
Although police retain an open mind regarding the motive, one possible line of enquiry is that the fight was between rival groups of football fans from Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic..
Anyone who was in the area of Joyce Dawson Way and Thamesmead town centre between 21.30 and midnight is asked to come forward.
Anyone who can assist is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 3775; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
A total of 21 men were been arrested in connection with the inquiry - 14 have since been released on bail to return to a south London police station on various dates in early November.
The remaining 7 men remained in custody at several London police stations.
Greenwich Borough Commander Peter Lowton, said: “I would like to reassure the public following this tragic death. We will be working closely with the community to bring those responsible to justice.”
