Apology from Thames Water
The Erith & Thamesmead MP, John Austin, has received an apology from Thames Water for their response to the flooding incident in North Road, Belvedere on Friday 18 August. John Austin had complained that despite being told of the problem in the morning of 18 August, Thames Water told residents that it would not be fixed until the following day. That evening, John Austin complained to Thames that houses were at risk of flooding and they agreed to send someone that evening. John Austin contacted the Fire Brigade and Belvedere councillor, Daniel Francis, contacted the council’s emergency team, both of whom arrived within minutes. Thames Water arrived later that evening after the Fire Brigade had pumped the water away. Thames Water then carried out the necessary repairs.
In a letter to John Austin, Thames Water’s Customer Relations Officer, Mark Deller, said that they had attended the scene on the Friday afternoon but decided that the repair could wait until the following morning. Following calls from residents and the MP that evening, they sent a technician and the main was shut down at 9.30pm and the repair completed at about 3am on Saturday morning.
Mr Deller’s letter says “Please accept our sincere apologies for this incident and our reassurances that this is not a reflection on our usual level of customer service.”
