NEW-LOOK CENTRAL LIBRARY!

Bexley’s flagship Central Library in Bexleyheath reopened on Monday 19th of September after major refurbishment and works to increase the public space inside the building. Improving the library is part of the Council’s ambitious Library Strategy, which has led to a massive increase in the number of library members and items borrowed. Among the new features available at the Central Library as a result of the improvement works are - - A new front entrance in Townley Road - Improved access for disabled people or those with young children - A new improved layout allowing a better display of books, CDs, DVDs and PlayStation Games - Additional public use PCs for free Internet access and software use - Express e-mail terminals - A Contact Point, including an interview room enabling users to have direct contact with main Council services - Quick Choice browser units - Refreshment area with a vending machine, comfortable seating, newspapers and magazines - New security measures - Self-issue terminals so visitors can borrow or return items without queuing at the counter - Public toilets - Additional space for the Local Studies and Archive Centre, including facilities for class visits / lectures / community meetings / displays - A study zone - WiFi zones on the ground and first floors - Integrated reference and non-fiction stock, providing easier access to the full range of materials available, The Library will be open seven days a week, from 9.30am - 5.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday, from 9.30am to 8pm on Thursday and from 10am to 2pm on Sunday.


Wind down in West Street
The Youth and Family centre in West street Erith, is part of the life long learning section of Bexley council. They offer a range of courses to local residents. Currently they are enrolling for the introduction to counselling course. Many students who successfully complete this go on to study at a higher level. They have some new course for this term. Face painting, where learners find out about the best way to apply face paints and practice designing their own patterns. Another new activity is busy beads, learners develop techniques to make a range of jewellery using various beads and threads. To help those whose week leaves them feeling stressed, they have ‘Weekend Wind Down’ on a Friday afternoon. Most of the courses cost £3.50 per session but represents great value for money. Alternatively just pop in for a coffee between 11.00 and 12.00 on weekdays and find out about all the other activities that run at the centre.
