It really is amazing how time flies. I remember as if it was yesterday, deciding to turn a thought of a local newspaper in reality and my have we grown since.
The idea of a local newspaper was formed due to the lack of information available to residents in North Bexley & Thamesmead. Before Gateway News there was a lack of coverage by other newspapers and for the few residents who received the free papers, they contained irrelevant news and information. The problem was worse particularly in Thamesmead as the majority of Thamesmead in managed by Gallions Housing and crosses over two boroughs, Bexley & Greenwich. It was obvious there was a need for a local paper.
Gateway News first came out in February 2005 and it was a12 page newspaper with just black and spot red. “Gateway” was taken from the Thames gateway development, a development regenerating towns along the river Thames.
Independently run with no financial backing, Gateway news is thankful for the support of the many local advertisers who are still advertising with us today. Without their support in the earlier month Gateway News would not exist.
Today Gateway News is one of the most recognisable Newspapers in the area. We are looking to continue building on our success to help with the development, prosperities and social issues of the area.
Gateway News is proud to be a truly local news paper run by the community for the community.
