RUNNING OUT OF TIME
Landlords Lorraine and Phil Davidson are preparing themselves to fight Bexley Council over a proposed compulsory purchase order. Bexley Council admitted that they are looking at the possibility of purchasing The Running Horses in Erith.
Phil and Lorraine who have only taken the pub over on 10th May 2006 were not aware of the compulsory purchase order and the matter was only bought to their attention by reading minutes from a previous Erith Town Forum meeting. Lorraine says “we are both shocked and horrified when we heard the news as we have just taken out a 30 year lease. We have sold our house to fund the refurbishment of the pub at a cost of about £90,000”.
A further £120,000 has been invested in reopening the carvery and Enterprise Inns, the freeholders of the Running Horses, have also spent money on the maintenance and structure of the 80 year old pub.
Lorraine and Phil plan to fight against any compulsory purchase order and believe they have the support of the town as the Running Horses represents an important part of Erith’s heritage. There is a petition which you can sign at The Running Horses pub.
Bexley Council have informed them that a decision will be made within the next six months.
