Puppetry Workshop
Erith Riverside entertained children on Wednesday 16th August, hosting a puppet workshop and parade, aimed at exposing younger people to more traditional forms of entertainment.

With technology being the predominant source of children’s entertainment today, a puppet-making workshop and parade was a welcome change. Instead of children being glued to televisions, computers and playstations, from 10am-2pm children were busy at Erith Riverside being educated and entertained on the ancient art of puppetry.

Run by Keith Barnes, an experienced puppeteer, the children arrived and eagerly set about creating their own colourful stick and hand puppets with the large variety of materials on offer, with Keith lending his expert hand for the trickier puppet creations.

“The kids get so enthusiastic with all the colours and materials to make their puppets and the workshops really open their eyes to tradition, creativity and fun that doesn’t require plugging in a cable”, says Keith.

“We also had a competition going for the best made puppets and paraded them through the shopping centre and the kids loved expressing themselves through their newly created puppets”.
