ERITH'S HIGH STREET HONEY

Local resident Vanessa Harris, of Erith, was short listed in FHM magazines top 100 High Street Honey 2005 competition. It all started when her boyfriend, a local police officer sent in her pictures to FHM without Vanessa’s knowledge. Vanessa said “The first I knew about it was a letter from FHM asking me to sign the Terms and Conditions”. After the shock and explaining by her boyfriend she sent the reply back to FHM. She continues “I never thought in a million years that FHM would notice me amongst over 6,500 entries but they did and now I need everyone’s support. I work for the ambulance service and as part of my campaign I am raising funds for Londons Helicopter Emergency Service which is based at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. This service is unique as it is the only service that can get a specialised trauma doctor to the scene of an accident in any area within London and the M25 Accidents are the biggest cause of mortality in the uk and since London Air Ambulance or HEMS as its otherwise known as commenced service , deaths caused by trauma have fallen by 50% in the areas it covers. Unfortunately HEMS’s survival relies heavily on public donations, so I need your help”! Vanessa raised £300 by shaking a bucket outside a local nightclub and is appealing for people to make their donation online at www.hems-london.org.uk.

THAMESMEAD'S POST OFFICE

Thamesmeads new post office commenced business on 15th August 2005, later than anticipated due to unforseen circumstances involving the transfer from Morrisons Superstore to its new home, The Front Page. The new branch provides full facilities previously offered at Morrisons, including road tax, Bureau de Change, money gram, travel insurance and various investment accounts along with normal postal services such as bill payments, parcel / letter posting and pension payments. They are currently serving from 3 counters at the rear of the store (open Mon-Fri 9am-5:30pm and Sat 9am-1pm) and there are 2 more serving positions at the front of the store by the checkout tills, which will be fully functional in the near future, hence offering most services during the normal store opening hours of 7am-7pm Mon-Sat and 7am-4pm Sun. At present we can do topups for all mobile phones and certain bill payments at these tills. The serving positions are designed to assist customers in wheelchairs and those hard of hearing.
